The Varial Flip is a combination between a Kickflip and a BS Pop Shuvit, make sure that you can do both of these skateboard tricks otherwise you'll have a hard time learning this. The object is to get the board to do a 180 and flip at the same time and your body stays in the same place. Varial Flips can be a frustrating skateboard trick at first, don't get discouraged, practice them often and don't forget to master your kickflips and BS Pop Shuvits too.
Step 1. Set your feet up like you're going to do a kickflip but point your front foot towards the nose of the skateboard so that its at about a 45 degree angle.
Step 2. Start to pop your board and as you do your back foot is going to swing back behind you. Make sure to practice and get the timing of this down, its just like a BS Pop Shuvit (thats why its key that you can do these before learning Varial Flips).
Step 3. Your front foot is going to slide up the board and kick off the nose, particularly where the concave meets the nose of your skateboard.
Tip. Its also crucial to get the timing right between both feet to optimize the height and spin of the skateboard trick, just remember this when your trying it and know that it's just trial and error to get the timing perfect.
Step 4. Keep your shoulders square with the board, its very important that you don't let your body follow either of your legs, let them do their thing and let your upper body do its thing.
Step 5. Make sure to jump high and us your front foot to guide your skateboard around.
Step 6. Aim for the truck bolts when landing on your board, bend your knees to absorb the impact, find your balance and ride away clean.
Happy Skateboarding!
