The heelflip is a cool looking skateboard trick it looks like the opposite of a kickflip but the technique to it is a lot different. A kickflip you kick with your toe off the backside and a heelflip you kick off the frontside with your heel.
Step 1. Get into the ollie position but place your front foot up about two inches so that your toes are hanging off the board.
Step 2. Make sure you find your balance and are comfortable in the heelflip positon, the more comfortable you are here, the more comfortable you'll be with the rest of the trick.
Step 3. Start to pop like you normally would for an ollie, start sliding your foot up the skateboard and extend your leg so that your heel kicks off the top of the board on a 45 degree angle where the concave is.
Tip. The biggest reason people fail doing a heelflip is because they kick down on the skateboard and not off the top. This will result in your front foot going straight to the ground before your board even finishes the rotation.
Step 4. After you start flipping the skateboard make sure you jump high and keep your back straight!!! This will keep the board under you and not behind you. Also make sure you're shoulders are square with the board, they shouldn't change position the whole time you're doing this skateboard trick.
Step 5. As the board makes its full rotation guide it/catch it with your back foot so that it doesn't over rotate.
Step 6. Land back on the board, bending your knees to take the impact, make sure your back is still straight and ride away clean.
Happy Skateboarding!
