Introduction
Learning to ride a skateboard isn't easy, it has a lot to do with finding your balance and right stance that your comfortable with, meaning trial and error type stuff. Board control plays a big part in learning skateboard tricks, the more control you have riding around the better you'll be with landing tricks and bringing them to gaps, stairs and anything else you want. So read these tips and tricks on How To Ride a Skateboard and practice until your nice and comfortable with being on your board.
Finding Your Stance
First things first, before you even step on a skateboard you first have to find out if you are regular or goofy, (regular means you have your left foot forward and your right foot back by the tail and goofy is the opposite) this will usually come naturally to you when you get on but here is a way to figure that out first. Go to a staircase and start walking up it, which foot did you use first? if it was your left your probably regular and if it was your right your probably goofy. If your right footed, meaning you would kick a soccer ball with your right foot, your probably regular.
How To Push a Skateboard
Now that you know your stance its time to hop on your skateboard and start riding around. To get speed, you now need to learn how to push. Take your back foot off the board and place it on the ground parallel to your board, if your regular this will be to the right of you if your goofy it will be to the left. Now as you put your foot on the ground your front foot should also turn parallel to your board, start to extend your back leg and push it off the ground towards the back of your board. This will start to make the board move. Keep your balance and as you've almost fully entended your leg backwards bring it around back to your starting stance position (on the tail of your skateboard). As you do this shift your other foot into the starting stance position(on the truck bolts by the nose of your skateboard). Now just bend your knees and ride away.
How To Ride a Skateboard

You basically just have to find your own comfort level on your board, keep your knees slighly bent and arms out at first. Make sure to have your shoulders square to the skateboard and just feel the road or your terrain that your riding on by moving your upper body to keep your balance.
